About Us

Bluegrass Tank and Equipment was founded by Richard E. Davis in Elizabethtown, Kentucky more than forty years ago and began operations in January of 1972 with just two employees. With a core group of dedicated employees, the business enjoyed continuous growth. In 1986, the present facility was built to manage the business growth in the fabrication and repair of food grade transport tanks.

The current Elizabethtown facilities consist of two 30,000 square foot shops with supporting offices, storage yards and parking areas. As our customer base continued to grow, we decided to add other locations in order to give our customers greater access to our high-quality products and services.

In 2003, Bluegrass Tank and Equipment ventured outside the state of Kentucky by purchasing a repair facility located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sooner Tank was acquired to handle the specialized repair and maintenance service needs of our growing customer base in the west. Ten years later in 2013 we grew again when we began a repair and maintenance operation in Belleview, Florida named Florida Tank and Equipment. That facility meets the service and repair needs of a growing number of sanitary haulers in both the dairy and juice industries in The Sunshine State.

In 2014, we expanded again by opening Michigan Tank and Equipment in Owosso, Michigan. This much needed repair and maintenance operation has been very well received by the milk haulers of Michigan, northern Indiana, and northern Ohio and has rapidly earned a reputation for exceptional quality repair and service work.

In the spring of 2021, we collaborated with Polar Service Centers at our Michigan facility. Polar has assumed the day-to-day operations of the Michigan facility, and it is now operated as a Polar Service Center.

In the spring of 2016, Sooner Tank was moved to Canyon, Texas – a community just outside Amarillo, Texas and was re-named Texas Tank and Equipment. This facility has ten repair bays, a tank wash, and sits on 12 acres, guaranteeing us the ability to grow along our customers.

Since 1975, Bluegrass Tank and Equipment has been an authorized Walker dealer selling sanitary food grade transport trailers. Over the years and with plenty of hard work, our product line has grown to include tanks and trailers from Brenner Tank, Bulk International, Polar Tank Trailers. Venturing outside the sanitary market, we became a dealer for Trinity Trailers in 2020, selling their well-respected live bottom “belt” trailers.

Our company also has a long tradition of custom-built farm pick-up trailers in support of the dairy industry. In addition, in late 2011, we rolled out our first Michigan tank, which was a 12,000 gallon farm pick-up tank. We are now in full production of these Michigan tanks in transport and direct-ship styles.

The company currently employs more than seventy-five people in four states. T. Davis Sales and Time Leasing are affiliate companies to provide essential service capabilities for sales and leasing. T. Davis Sales, named for Richard Davis’ three children, is the company that facilitates the purchases and sales of all of our trailers, both new and used. Time Leasing is the affiliate that handles the leases of our lease fleet, which is several hundred trailers strong.

Still privately owned by the Davis family, Bluegrass Tank and Equipment strives for a reputation of excellence for quality sales, service and support of the various equipment it serves.
